“Boutique Stellenbosch winery Journey’s End recently launched two new wines at the top end of its portfolio- Destination Chardonnay 2006 and The Cape Doctor Shiraz 2005. The Chardonnay is a serious and substantial wine, creamy with some pineapple and nectarine character as well. The top –end Shiraz, named after the dry wind that cools the region, is rich and finely grained, with slightly gamey aromas and some tobacco and spice...”

“ The Gabb family having originally planned this vinous venture around the family table in Shropshire. Its aim was to produce premium single- vineyard wines that would be true to the Schaapenberg terroir with its sea- facing slopes and cooling coastal breezes. Conditions could hardly be more favourable. As Rollo puts it “We’ve only got ourselves to blame if the wines bollocks”. No blame is necessary, because the wine is great.

Production at Journey’s End is small. The estate produces 130 barrels per year from 67000 vines, which works out as slightly less than one bottle per vine. It’s an evident source of pride that none of the grapes are brought in, as happens with the larger vineyards. [READ MORE ]
